Porch House by Architecture for Humanity

Architecture for Humanity (AFH), headed by Cameron Sinclair, is a non-profit design services firm, founded in 1999. Their ambition is to build a more sustainable future through the power of professional design. By tapping a network of more than 40,000 professionals, who lend time and expertise to help those who would not otherwise be able to afford their services, AFH bring design, construction and development services where they are most critically needed. Their most current project is the relief work since the Haiti earthquake earlier this year. AFH approaches this and other projects with great rigour and it is a long process to develop and create sustainable solutions that will benefit those affected long-term.
AFH’s has over the last four years been involved in helping families rebuild their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Katarina, which hit the Gulf Coast in 2005. The Biloxi Model Home programme provides design services and financial assistance for the construction of homes for families in the Biloxi, Mississippi area. It offers families the chance to work one-to-one with architects and designers. This gives them access to their respective expertise, using the latest in material research, disaster mitigation and sustainable building techniques. These designs address sustainability not only from the standpoint of material and energy consumption, but also in a community development.

I am so impressed by their work, their effort, their passion and skill!
